In 1998, the teaching staff at the elementary school Soledad Rivas in Vinto asked SNKP-Bolivia for training in language formation. The language formation program has the following purpose: to offer Bolivian educators a training course in the methodology for language formation, and integrate this methodology in the existing education curriculum. Language formation is focused on creating an open, interactive and communicative pedagogy in schools. The role of the teacher is to be the facilitator the learning process and a participant in a group process with the pupils. The teacher is encouraged to use their own experience as a starting point. The program is also designed to allow for the reality of multilingualism in Bolivia. The first stage of the program took 5 years (1999-2003) and was achieved in collaboration with the Utrecht Hogeschool voor de Kunst and co-financed by the Dutch Department of Education.
Everyone who comes into contact with this methodology for language formation comments on its importance and recognises the role this program can play in the further development of the Bolivian education system. SNKP continues to conduct this training in language formation with a team of Bolivian trainers. Until now, training has taken place at 42 schools, with the support of SEDUCA.In Bolivia the methodology for language formation has been divided into 11 steps. These steps are not a recipe, but offer a structure and organisation that enable teachers to develop their self-confidence with the program. Within each step there are a number of practical work methods. The main idea is not just to conform to these methods, but rather to help teachers to develop a positive attitude, which will stimulate cooperation, communication and interaction in the classroom. In this way, the knowledge and skills of the pupils is broadened, based on their teacher’s pre-existing knowledge.
